On February 6, 2017, Lakewood City Council (by a single vote) approved the controversial Rooney Valley Master Plan (RVMP), a non-binding “guiding” document meant to convey a unified vision for the development of the Valley.
Now the rush is on by developers to get shovels in the ground.
This is no more evident than with the proposed de-annexation of over 300 acres by Jefferson County. The development is called Red Rocks Ranch, and is currently located inside the town limits of Morrison. Because of Morrison’s refusal to allow development within the Town, a plan was hatched whereby the 300+ acres would disconnect from Morrison, thereby allowing subsequent annexation into Jefferson County. This means thousands of new residents equaling tens of thousands of additional car trips per day.
It should be noted that there has been significant opposition to the disconnection that has been publicly expressed by citizens of lakewood during City Council Meetings, as well as public outcry in the town of morrison.
